| Able to stalk both land and air, Griffons are efficient hunters and travel in small groups. - Quote :
- Heralded as one of the most noble of all creatures, the Griffon is said to preside over the realm of beasts in no small number. Standing several feet taller than the average human it bears two vast wings usually kept folded against its body, which when extended can reach up to six feet or more in either diection. It wears feathers over its body except for a thin coating of fur on their long and lash-like tail, where a spectrum of dark grey, brown and black hues denote the territorial origin of an individual beast. Its front legs end in avian talons to match its serrated beak, sharpened to a point by nature itself, though it stands upon a paw-footed hind more suited to a common mammal.
A common sight on the western continent where the land rises, it makes its nest inside naturally forming caves and crags as out of sight and sheltered as possible. Though this is often to protect its young until the offspring is mature enough to learn to fend for itself, the Griffon has a natural aversion to rainfall and storms alike and will refuse to fly if forced to leave shelter during foul weather.
Whilst large enough to ride, a Griffon makes a poor steed. Disobedient, stubborn, and of an unbreakable will, it is a proud beast that would rather feel its life leave it then consign it to slavery by a lesser race. Though many have tried to domesticate them, it has only ever ended in injury and in many cases, death. They do not hunt people by instinct, but have been known to attack them more than a few times. If a Griffon is encountered on your travels, it is more than recommended to simply leave it alone. A single Griffon is dangerous enough, but they are never far from their flock. | |
