Magic:
Scrying: An ability that lets the user take a glimpse into the future, past, or another part of the world. Often used to find things. Before losing the ability to use magic this was her most advanced and experienced spell. It requires several days of preparation and takes many hours to perform, depending on the depth of the divination. Sera unfortunately is not skilled enough to glimpse into the future or past, but she can scry to see things in the present day.

Teleportation: An ability that lets the user teleport themselves or other people and objects to other places. This is her second most practiced spell, but she can only teleport herself short distances. It requires a lot of focus and some considerable time to perform. She can teleport up to ten feet from where she stands, but unfortunately isn't skilled enough to use this ability in the heat of combat. If she fails she could end up magically tearing her body apart.

Telekinesis: An ability that lets the user move people and objects without touching them. Her least practiced ability, she can only move very small objects in close proximity to her short distances. Things that weigh more than ten pounds are too heavy for her, and anything outside five feet around her is too far. She can only move objects a couple feet at a time with a lot of focus, a few inches without focusing too hard.

Biography
Sera was born and lived normally enough for an elf girl. She lived in the port city of Olvina, in Aldinor. She was born to two elven parents who cared for her very much as she'd been the first living child of several unsuccessful attempts. Nothing of particular interest happened during this time, she was raised, taught life lessons and values and kept alive and healthy. When she reached adulthood she decided to pursue magic, hearing about it and the mysticism that was possible through it, she was eager to become a part of this great portion of the world.

She struggled to find someone to teach her magic, no official schools existed close enough to home for her to go there and she wasn't so eager to leave her parents' love and support. She did find an old man to teach her the basics of magic though. He was an arcanist and extremely old. He wanted someone to continue on his legacy of arcane magic as he did not have a family, though it was a legacy only he could recall. He first taught her how to focus, properly. None of that sitting down and doing one thing, she had to sit down and do nothing but focus. The old man's emphasis on focus was sometimes annoying for the excited young elf but she got used to it, and eventually found peace in the focus and clarity the man had given her. Sera enjoyed her time with the old man, learning arcane magic. He treated her like a daughter of his own. Eventually she started learning more advanced arcane magic, after several years with the old man. Unfortunately her lessons came to an abrupt end. She entered his home like always in the morning only to find his corpse laying in his bed. She was greatly disturbed by this, but found she was left his home and all of his things after his death. The town gladly gave her what his will had defined and she moved into the home.

He left her a magical staff in particular, a beautifully crafted piece of light metal to help her with magic. She continued to practice magic, more eager now than before to continue his legacy and maybe expand upon it. She lived in the home for ten years. She taught herself and practiced arcane magic almost constantly. She found the old man's research notes and personal journals and poured over them when she wasn't practicing. She was nearing fourty now and becoming very experienced with magic. In particular she practiced scrying, often using it to look for things inside the home. Notes and research and books the old man had hidden under piles of other books and notes. They expanded her knowledge of magic and her time in the home was peaceful and reserved almost entirely for practicing magic. She also picked up and gained a curiousity for alchemy, a new practice in the world. The old man who taught her was beginning to get interested in alchemy, though he was much too old to put any real focus into it, outside of his magical practice. She found some notes and began collecting knowledge on the subject. Though her real interest in that comes much later.

She did leave the home though, from time to time. In particular, on her fiftieth birthday, she left to celebrate by traveling. She went to the port and tried to find a ship she could charter to some far away land she could enjoy. She did find a ship, to El-Deya. She knew it was the slave capital of the world and could be a very hostile land but the captain of the ship seemed extremely friendly. He told of the wonders of El-Deya and the hidden beauty of the land. Some coin and a contract later she boarded the ship with some of her things.

The ship departed on that sunny day and shortly after they exited the rivers of Aldinor and crossed into The Divide, she was set upon by the sailors. They bound her and threw her in the cargo hold of the ship. They stole her staff and hid it away, along with everything else she brought. Fear sat in her stomach now, she was going to be a slave. She felt a little glimmer of hope, for her ability to escape a cell through teleportation was noteworthy and still as of yet unknown.

A long few days of sailing later, the sailors came down into the brig to grab the starving, and thirsty mage. She was dragged up onto the deck and sold to a slavemaster. He took her things as a prize, in particular the staff she had. She was kept hungry and thirsty for several days, getting only modest quantities of water to keep her alive. She could not perform magic, or do anything in this state and that upset the slavemaster. He didn't buy slaves to have them lay around in cells all day, he had them for a multitude of other much more entertaining reasons. He ordered magical shackles to be made for her. They were clapped on after several more weeks of starvation and thirst and then, she was fed and given water. Much to Sera's shock. She ate and drank and began to regain her strength, but when she tried to perform magic she found that she had no energy. She couldn't escape.

It was several years of slavery, indignified working and other activities that she endured before she was freed. She would sit in her cell and quietly think and focus. It gave her comfort and reminded her of home. She had a long life to live and if she lived only part of it in slavery, it wouldn't be so bad. While she couldn't turn her focus into magic thanks to the shackles around her ankles, it did help her get through her time as a slave without too much mental scarring. A revolt by the slaves, though brief, allowed some of them to escape into the streets. The slavemaster's guards captured or killed most of them, save for Sera and a man. She never learned his name, though she suspected he hadn't heard his proper name in years and years as his eyes were sunken and dark. Though they glimmered now, a single bit of hope he carried had survived to this point. Sera managed to rescue her staff from the slavemaster's ownership, reclaiming it in the violence and chaos of the short revolt.

They escaped to the docks where a trader from the west heard their story and immediately harboured them on his ship, keeping them safe and fed. They departed and sailed back to Aldinor where Sera and her former-slave friend were deposited. He went his seperate way, and Sera went to have her shackles broken off, as she still wore them and was unable to do magic. She went to blacksmiths but the magic on the shackles prevented them from being broken by physical means, all their blows and heat simply bounced off and didn't harm the shackles in the slightest.

She learned to cope with not being able to do magic, and decided to pursue Alchemy, but first she had to get away from the coastal cities of Aldinor, else she be captured once more by the slavemaster. Several weeks of beggining and scrounging and she saved enough money to get a carriage to Estavyr, a place she thought she'd be safe from the slavemaster's long arms. Hopefully she's right.

Alright, alright. I like to see when people set their characters up for their own personal story-arc, that's nice.

10/10 would enslave

Having spoken to Thoro about this, I think it's good enough to pass approval. The bio is decent, it's a good length and covers all of the major parts of her life, explaining how she got to where she is at the present day. I would put a line of space between the paragraphs just to make it easier to read.

She might know some pretty powerful spells, but they're heavily balanced out and she has no access to them at the moment (nor will she for quite some time). The alchemy is a nice touch, it makes a lot of sense for a de-powered mage to turn to it. Just keep in mind that as a novice alchemist she'll need practice to grow, which means making lots and lots of potions without blowing herself up. I wonder if she has or will have a mana addiction that might play into her pursuit of this field...

Anyways, I'll wait until Krug or Zaku get a say rather than moving this.
